Physio assessing a knee

True Physio patients are often surprised by what we treat, and even what Physiotherapy actually is. If you have never had physio, there is a good chance you won’t really know what we do, or vein what we treat. You might think it’s not for you, but nearly everybody we see says they wish they had come sooner.

Why see a physio?

The number one reason is pain. If something hurts that is a good reason to see a physio.

And that means if anything hurts, no matter what the reason.

Physios are  musculoskeletal professionals. We deal with the muscles and the skeleton, plus the tendons, ligaments and nerves that surround them. If you have pain, from a headache, right down to pain in your toe get yourself along to a reputable clinic.  An assessment will tell you what’s causing the pain and what can be done about it.

You don’t have to be injured

Pain happens for all sorts of reasons.  Many people think the only time to see a physio is after an accident or injury.  This is not the case. The majority of the people we see haven’t had an injury; the pain has simply come on and won’t go away! At our clinics we do see plenty of people who have injured themselves doing something specific. Sometimes that will be sport, but often it’s an activity around the house or at work.

Now you understand when we can help. We treat pain and discomfort, for whatever reason, wherever it is in the body.

Does it hurt?

Stop right there. A lot of people are put off because they think it will hurt. Okay we can’t guarantee it will be pain free. But if we are dealing with a tender area, you have got to expect some discomfort.

You come to us in pain, some techniques might be painful briefly.  But they will help, sometimes immediately.  Over the following few days you may be aware of the area that has been treated. However nearly every patient we see wishes they had come sooner. And just to be clear, it almost never hurts as much as they think it will.

It’s just massage isn’t it?

Mobilisations, manipulations, taping, acupuncture, specific exercises and electrotherapy. These are just some of the techniques we use. We use massage too.

Everything we do is designed to help you improve quickly.  We also do things a little differently at True Physio.

We focus on making sure you understand what is causing the pain.  Once you know this, you can play an active role in getting better. We help you to take back control so you can do the all things you love.  The number of people who tell us they feel better just because they understand what is causing their pain is amazing.

Will I have to come for ages?

Our job is to get you to your goal whatever it is. Normally this is to get you back to the things you want to do, quickly! At your first session we will discuss how long we expect your recovery to take. We will be able to suggest how many sessions it should take.

This way you will know what to expect at every step of your recovery. We want you to reach your goal, and be delighted with your treatment.

If we can’t help you, or we don’t think things are improving as quickly as they should be, we will be up front. We have some brilliant people we can refer you to if physio isn’t working. A good Physio will never keep treating longer than is absolutely necessary. We fix you, you tell people, that’s the best way for us to stay in business.

If you want to know if we can help; get in touch. One of our Physios will happily discuss things with you over the phone. Find out how to get in touch here.
