We’ve had the True Physio clinic in Sale for a year now. We’ve heard about all kinds of local sports from our patients.  Here we highlight five popular Sale sports clubs to check out.

At the True Physio clinic in Sale, we have treated dozens of local sports club members from across Manchester and Sale. We’re taking this opportunity to highlight some of the fabulous sports clubs in the area. We’ve come up with the Top Five Sale Sports Clubs To Check Out.  Anybody new to South Manchester; or anybody who is ready to take up a new sport definitely needs to cast their eyes over this list.

1. Running for 100 Years!

Sale Harriers has been running for more than 100 years. You may well recognise their distinctive running vests in green with white and red stripes. The club has three sites, in Sale you’ll find them at Crossford Bridge.  Starting with anybody from seven years of age they offer endurance training, track & field. There are also sections listed on their site for cross county and fell and trail.

The club says: “Please do not be put off by thinking that, because Sale Harriers has some of the fastest runners and best field event athletes in the country, the club doesn’t cater for all abilities. Whether you want to be part of a strong competitive Club or simply part of a group of keep-fit enthusiasts, Sale Harriers welcomes you.”

You can find answers to all your questions and details on membership on their comprehensive website here.

2. Wimbledon Champ In Waiting?

With a comprehensive programme of coaching Sale Tennis Club is a great place to start if you haven’t picked up a racket in a while. They run ladies only session, beginner and intermediate coaching throughout every week. The club is run by volunteers and places itself at the heart of the community. But it doesn’t stop with tennis, they also offer hockey, football, rugby and cricket. There is even walking netball proving age and fitness are never a barrier to getting active.

There are sports clubs in the school holidays and they run a fab social calendar including comedy nights and fun events like the club olympics where you can enter in a team of four.  What are you waiting for? We’ve popped their Twitter feed below or find them on the world wide web here.

3. Get Into Golf

Sale Golf Club claim to have a “reputation for being one of the best golf courses in Cheshire.” And taking a look at their web site, it isn’t hard to believe. We’ve treated a number of their members who tell us how professionally run the club is.

The club is split into Mens, Ladies, Juniors, Seniors and Social sections. Activities are run by the professional staff aided by a host of enthusiastic volunteers.

Golf can be seen as an expensive sport. Like many clubs Sale Golf Club has modernised and offers staged payments, plus you get a generous discount on the bar prices and room hire. The club has also set up reciprocal arrangements with other clubs, as a result  you get to play for free at other venues.

If you are new to golf everybody has to start somewhere. Check out the taster sessions offered by the club or the four week beginner course.

4. Ride As Far As You Want

You will find a bunch of enthusiastic cyclists at South Manchester’s cycling and cycle touring club. Join a ride for free, they say:

Why not join us for a ride? You can come with us for three rides as a guest. After that, if you’d like to continue then you will need to join the parent Cycling UK organisation. This is to provide insurance cover whilst riding with our club. We are not a racing club, and as a rule we ensure riders are not left behind.

The club stresses you need to join the right group. For example their “C Rides” are suitable for older riders, those new to cycling or people wanting to get back into it. The C rides are normally at a gentle pace over 30 miles. Factored into all rides are coffee and lunch stops. Top marks for that!

The ride outs are organised meticulously and there is a run list published on the site every week.  Once you are a member  you can take part in the touring programme and holidays. Chapeau to the guys at this club who are doing amazing things for the sport of cycling. Find out more here.

5. Fancy Footwork

If you fancy something different; just three miles from our Sale clinic you can find Trafford Sword Club.  The fencing club meets every Tuesday night. Beginner courses run for juniors and seniors. The introductions to fencing are as part of a programme under the auspice of the British Fencing Associaton.

All fencing equipment is provided by the club but you will need; basic sports wear,
track suit bottoms, T-shirt and training shoes.

If you’re curious, we found this video explaining the different styles of fencing.

It’s a fascinating sport. You can choose from three weapons, they are the foil, epee or sabre. Rules for each differ. Give the club a ring to try your hand 0161 613 2325.
