We love massage. It’s so good for you.  Our blog, Massage: Physio Set Out Ten Benefits, highlights just some of the reasons you should give it a go.

Massage from a physio has all kinds of benefits.

Reason #1 Massage Reduces Stress

We all lead hectic lives. Taking time out from the rigours of everyday life can be good for your body and good for your soul.  Even just thirty minutes once a month can have a tremendous impact on your overall wellbeing. Remember to stop and look after yourself!

Reason #2 Promote Good Sleep

If you have a knot in your back or an ache in your neck, it can interfere with sleeping. Massage can actually banish these ailments and help prevent them coming back. But here’s a fact you may not know: it can also stimulate the hormones that create a great sleeping experience.

Reason #3 Recover Repeat

A regular in the gym? Or have a favourite sport? Massage is amazing at helping your muscles recover. Any lactic acid causing stiffness will be given a boost to disperse much faster after a massage. This means you get back to doing what you love a lot sooner.

Massage is amazing at helping your muscles recover.

Reason #4 Good For The Soul

We can hold stress in our bodies, suffer from anxiety or just feel tired. A thirty minute massage can deal with these knots and relieve physical and emotional stress. It can also rejuvenate you.  Taking time out can help you to deal with whatever lies ahead.

Reason #5 Prevention Rather Than Cure

This applies especially if you are a sports fanatic, or thereabouts!  A massage is an extra workout for your muscles. It helps prevent the gradual build up of lactic acid or strains that can eventually put you off or out of your game.  Regular massage is a great investment in you and your sport.

Reason #6 Weight Loss and Banish Toxins

Massage is proven to stimulate lymphatic drainage, so it can reduce water retention. Like exercise it releases endorphins. This feel good hormone can help motivate you to stick to your goals, so use it alongside healthy eating and exercise for total wellbeing.

Reason #7 Movement, Movement, Movement!

Particularly as we get older, we start to experience aches and pains.  Lower back pain is particularly common. Massage can help give you more range of movement. Over time, coupled with some simple exercises, your therapist can help you get back to a hop, skip and a jump.

Massage can help give you more range of movement.

Reason #8 Pain Reduction

There is a lot of research into the benefits of massage and one study concluded that massage is a real alternative to conventional medicine for chronic back pain. Movement is good to keep pain in check also. So if you are feeling stiff or too sore to exercise, massage could give the kick start you need to get on a path to a pain free life.

Reason #9 Rehabilitation

If you have been injured, normally through an accident, getting back on your feet can be a long hard slog.  A good rub down can have a direct impact on recovery of your muscles. It can help reduce the pain and inflammation and physically realign the muscle fibres.

Reason #10 Just Plain Good For You

As well as being good for your psyche, we love massage because it can help blood flow giving a positive effect on your heart rate and blood pressure. New blood will flow into any area being massaged which is really good for all parts of your body and even your brain.

Don’t underestimate massage.  Our Chief Physio Andy always says massage is not a luxury and the team agree. The NHS website states that massage relieves pain, improves movement and promotes relaxation.
